Narnia, poterie et kiwi [WEEK 7&8]

A Tauranga

Helloooo,

Ces deux dernières semaines sont passées à une vitesse folle et je réalise que dans quelques jours, ça fera déjà deux mois que je suis ici. Cette quinzaine s'est passée un peu différemment car pour la première fois depuis mon arrivée en Nouvelle-Zélande, j'avais 12 jours sans Help X, Woofing ou Cultural Exchange et j'en étais bien contente.
J'adore toujours autant le système mais j'avais besoin d'une petite "pause" entre deux familles.

These past two weeks were crazy fast and I realised that in a few day, it will be two month since I landed in Auckland. These 15 days were a bit different as for the firth time since I arrived, I had 12 days without any HelpX, Woofing or Cultural exchange and I was quite happy about it. I still love the system though, but I needed a break between two families.

En premier lieu, je suis remontée au nord, vers le Coromandel. C'est une destination très touristique, même pour les Néo-zélandais, et y aller un week-end ensoleillé  n'était peut-être pas l'idée du siècle haha. Mais c'est vraiment une région magnifique, même si je n'y suis pas passée longtemps. Pour info, la référence à Narnia dans le titre, c'est parce qu'ils ont tournés une scène à Cathedral Cove (voir photos ci-dessous).

First, I decided to drive back north, to Coromandel. It's a very touristic area, even for the new-zelanders and go there on a sunny week-end was probably not the brightest idea. But it is a truly stunning region, even though I wasn't there for a long time. For your information, I wrote Narnya in the title because they shot some scene of the movie at Cathedral Cove (which you can see on the pictures below).

Waiau fall, dans laquelle il est possible de se baigner ! 

Driving Creek, c'est le projet de Barry Brickell, un potier qui à crée une ligne de chemin de fer sur les collines (hautes quand même les collines), pour acheminer son matériel. Après quelques années, il a réalisé le potentiel touristique de son projet et à donc ouvert sa propriété aux touristes, ce qui nous permet donc d'effectuer une balade en train d'une heure dans les collines, d'admirer ses créations (peu préservées malheureusement) et de profiter de magnifiques vues sur la côte.

Driving Creej is Barry Brickell's project, a potter who created a railway in the middle of the bush and on the mounts around his property, in order to route everything he needed to work. After a few years, he realised that his railway could be a tourist attraction and opened his place to the public. Thus, it is possible to get on a train for a one-hour ride in the midts of the bush while contemplating not only some of his work but also wonderful views over the coast. 

Ensuite, j'ai longé la côte en passant par Tauranga, une ville côtière assez sympa, qui a parfois des allures de Miami (pas que j'y ai déjà été, mais c'est comme ça que j'imagine Miami :p)

Next, I drived along the coastline until Tauranga, a city next to the sea and quite agreable. 

 A Tauranga, j'ai visité le musée d'art moderne. C'était super intéressant, surtout l'expo sur Roger Ballen, un artiste dont je n'avais jamais entendu parlé mais qui a réalisé le clip "I Fink U Freeky" de Die Antwoord (ça ça me parle par contre). Et vu les photographies et vidéos réalisées par le monsieur, le clip est plutôt soft !

There, I visited the Tauranga Art Gallery, which was very interesting, especially the Roger Ballen's exhibition. I've never heard of this artist before but he was the director of the music video "I fink u freeky" by the Antwoord. In view of his photographies and other videos, this video clip is quite "normal" !

Street art - Tauranga

J'ai finalement atterri à Opotiki, pour aller dire bonjour à Arnaud, un ancien coloc d'Ysa qui travaillait dans les vergers de kiwis. J'ai quasi pas de photos d'Opotiki car je n'ai pas vraiment visité. J'y suis restée 6 jours (au lieu de 2 comme prévu initialement) et j'en ai profité pour traîner à la plage, rencontrer des belges (woop woop !) et des français, me faire battre à plate couture au billard et jouer aux cartes. Bref, ça m'a fait du bien, surtout de rencontrer des gens un peu plus longuement que juste pour une soirée et d'ailleurs, il est déjà prévu que j'en revoie certains.

After 4 days on my own, my final destination was Opotiki, where one of my sister's friend lived for the last couple of months, working in the kiwi's orchards. I don't have a lot of pictures of that place because I didn't really visited anything. I stayed there 6 days (instead of 2  as originally planned) and I enjoyed going on the beach, meeting other Belgians ( at last !) and frenchies, lost a lot when playing pool and playing with cards. It felt good to be there, meeting people for more than one evening and I know that I will see some again later. 

Opotiki

C'est les petits kiwis qu'ils doivent couper dans les vergers, pour laisser la place aux autres fruits de se développer

Après Opotiki, j'avais rendez-vous à Palmerston North chez Craig, un ami de Simon, mon beau-frère qui a gentiment proposé de m'héberger (encore merci pour le contact d'ailleurs :D). Je suis donc tranquillement redescendue par la côte est, ai fait une superbe rando pour aller voir les Fous de Bassans à Cape Kidnapper et ai regretté de ne pas avoir plus de temps pour découvrir Napier (mais bon, j'ai trop traîné à Opotiki... mais ça en valait la peine)

After Opotiki, I had two days before going in Palmerthon North, where a friend of my brother-in-law kindly offered to stay at his place. I drived along the east coast, taking my time and did a stunning day-walk at Cape Kidnappers, to observe the gannets colonies. I'm just a bit sorry I didn't have time to visit Napier (but my bad, I stayed to many time in Opotiki... Was worth it though)
